What kind of skates should I buy?

-
Finding the right type of roller skates for you depends on your preferences and the kind of skating you’ll be doing. If you’re going to skate at a roller rink then you will need indoor skates which have harder indoor wheels. Many roller skate packages come with indoor wheels and are designed for indoor rink skating. However if you’re going to be skating outdoors then you’ll need a pair of outdoor skates with softer outdoor wheels. Some skates have hybrid wheels which can be used indoors or outdoors. Another option is to buy a separate set of outdoor wheels and change the wheels when needed.
-
Yet another consideration is whether to get a high cut boot or a low cut boot. High cut boots provide better ankle and foot support and are more common in artistic and rhythm skates used in figure skating and dance skating. Shorter low cut boots are often used in speed skates, derby skates and jam skates. Low cut boots may give the skater better maneuverability, control, and speed.
-
It’ all about personal preference. Your roller skates should fit your lifestyle and personality. If they look the way you want them to and the feel right when you put them on then these are the right skates for you.

How do I know the right size for my skate?

-
Roller skates are typically sized similarly to shoe sizes. Your regular shoe size will more than likely provide you with the best fit for your skates. It is important to note however that most skates come in men’s sizes, therefore ladies buying these skates should select a size lower than their normal shoe size for a good fit. Likewise for men buying skates which come in ladies sizes, a size higher should be selected. Some manufactures have a sizing chart which can be printed and used to assist in choosing the right size. We have provided some of these charts in the links below.

Do I need to wear a helmet or other equipment?

-
Roller skating is a lot of fun but there are some inherent dangers. Falls will occur sometimes and therefore the use of protective gear such as helmets, knee pads, elbow pads, and wrist guards are highly recommended to avoid injuries or minimize the effects of injuries.
How can I build a custom pair of skates?

-
You can build your own custom skates in one of two ways. You can purchase all the separate parts individually, this includes the boots, plates, wheels, laces, mounting kit, etc. and any tools you may need to mount the plates and assemble the skates yourself if you know how to do this and are comfortable with the process. The other option is to select the parts you want and we can have a skate package built for you for a $5 mounting fee. Please indicate at checkout if you would like us to build a custom skate package for you. ( * Custom built packages will take longer to ship and receive ).

What's the difference between indoor and outdoor skates?

-
The main difference between indoor and outdoor skates is the type of wheels on the skates. Outdoor wheels are softer, they are designed this way to have a better grip on the skating surface. Indoor skates have harder wheels. They are made this way to decrease the amount of friction with the surface this makes them smooth and fast. Softer outdoor wheels may have a hardness/durometer rating of 78A to 84A. Harder indoor wheels might have a 90A to 101A hardness rating.

How do I maintain my skates?

-
The boots of your skates will probably be made of vinyl of leather. This part of the skates can be cleaned and maintained with soft cloth and a leather cleaner. The wheels and bearings on a skate can be removed and a bearing cleaner can be used to remove dirt and debris. These bearings can be lightly oiled and then the wheels and bearings can be placed back onto the skate axles. Always keep your skates dry and remove any dirt or grime from the skates.
